Letter from Auxiliary President:
Hello
to all! My name is Cindy Gross and I would like to say thank you to the
SDPOA Auxiliary for asking me to take on the duties as president for
another year! What an honor. (In case you didn’t know, I was the
President of the Auxiliary also from 2008-2009.) Due to extenuating
circumstances for some of our board, we have shuffled some things around
and I am happy to announce your Auxiliary board for the upcoming year.
The 1st Vice President is Cindy Sahli, 2nd Vice President is Karen
Maciejewski. Our Secretary/Treasurer is Lois McCord.
The South Dakota Peace Officers’ Association has a lot to offer to those
who protect and serve the citizens of South Dakota. The Auxiliary is in
place to support those very same officers. We also have the opportunity
to support ourselves and offer each other a shoulder to cry on, an ear
to listen and a friend to confide in. I am honored to be leading such a
fine group of ladies and be a part of the Auxiliary and Board for
another year. My husband, Derald, is the President of the Association
this year, and I look forward to working side by side with him in this
year’s adventure!
The Auxiliary looks forward to the Annual Convention for several
reasons. We all enjoy each other’s company, have an opportunity to
attend law enforcement training with our spouses and get a little more
insight to what they do, form our own bonds and networking as well as
have some fun! At the annual convention this year, we again had a
successful silent auction of gift baskets. Their designs were from one
end of the spectrum to the other and all were beautifully presented.
There are baskets for all – guys, gals, dogs, hunters – a little bit of
everything! The way this works is that people (mainly our members)
provide baskets for convention attendees to bid on and win. They are
finalized at the dinner on Tuesday night. We have even had local
auxiliaries and businesses donate items for auction! (The chocolate
basket was gorgeous, simply gorgeous!) Anyone is welcome to donate an
auction item. This is our major fundraiser for the year, so the more we
have, the better off we are!
Also at convention, some ladies participated in the .22 pistol shoot,
and, as always, someone even went home with a new gun! (If you don’t
shoot, you can’t win!) We also participated in the trap shoot, bowling
night and mini-golf. The prime rib dinner was delicious, and karaoke
night was a blast! Please consider attending the conference in 2010. We
are always looking to add to our membership, so if you know someone that
you isn’t a member, please invite them! We would love to see some new
faces in the group, and we welcome them with open arms. (For those
officers reading this, please encourage your spouse to come join in on
the fun, even if they just try it once! They won’t regret it!)
I am happy to also remind everyone that our auxiliary also offers at
least one college scholarship per year. (You can find the application in
this magazine.) We also sponsor the Spirit of Six competition at the
Girls’ State Basketball tournaments each year. Another item that we
discuss every year is finding a local charity or non-profit organization
that would give us a tour of their facility or come speak to us at our
luncheon and accept a small donation from us. If you have anyone in
mind, please be sure to forward their information to a board member.
Call, text, email, write – I am here for you. Take care and have a safe
and healthy year.
Cindy Gross
Auxiliary President
